Spy x Family continues to be one of the most entertaining and meaningful anime shows out there. In Season 2 Episode 4, the story focuses on a silly yet serious school event at Eden Academy: the search for the legendary Pastry of Knowledge. This episode may seem like pure comedy at first glance, but there’s actually a lot to reflect on. Anya and her classmates all believe that the one who finds and eats this special pastry will suddenly become smarter, and so the race begins. What was supposed to be a normal school day turns into a chaotic, dramatic, and absolutely hilarious adventure. But beyond all the jokes and chasing, there are a few hidden messages about effort, self-worth, and the way we chase after things that we believe will make us better.

What can you say about the anime? Is it good or bad? Why?

Personally, I think Spy x Family is not just good, it’s clever, fun, and full of heart! It knows how to make people laugh while still delivering lessons that hit close to home. This episode, although it doesn’t include any serious spy missions, still managed to show the creativity of the story. Turning a simple pastry into the most wanted prize shows how the show can take something ordinary and make it exciting. The characters are all unique, especially Anya, who continues to bring chaos and charm in the best way possible. What I love most is how the anime balances fun and life lessons so naturally, without being boring or too serious.

What do you think is the best scene in the anime? Why?

The best scene for me was when Anya tried to use her telepathy to outsmart everyone and win the pastry, but still ended up failing in the most Anya way. It was funny, of course, but also very real. It made me realize that even if you have an advantage like Anya’s ability to hear people’s thoughts—it doesn't always lead to success. Sometimes, trying too hard to be the best or to impress others can lead to funny (and humbling) results. Her silly expressions and dramatic thoughts made the whole moment extra entertaining, but at the same time, it reminded me that there's no easy way to success. We all have to work hard, accept failures, and keep going.

Would you recommend it to someone? Why or why not?

Yes, I would definitely recommend Spy x Family to others, especially to students like me who sometimes just need a good laugh or something to help us relax. But beyond just being fun, it also teaches valuable things in a subtle way. It shows us that effort is more important than shortcuts, that family and friendships matter, and that it is okay to fail sometimes. This episode made me think about how often we chase something, whether it is higher grades, praise, or even attention, because we think it will make us feel smarter or more successful. But in the end, what matters is that we do our best and enjoy the process. Spy x Family makes those messages easy to understand while still being really fun to watch.

We watched this episode earlier for our Littera class, and at the same time, I felt even more excited because I have always loved Spy x Family. At first, I thought I would just enjoy another round of Anya’s funny expressions and chaotic plans. But as I continued watching her take on the mission to find the Pastry of Knowledge, I slowly realized the episode had a deeper message. Every student wanted to win, thinking the pastry would make them smarter, more admired, or more successful. Even Anya, who could read minds, had a hard time keeping up. That reminded me of how we sometimes chase things, thinking they will fix everything or make us better, when in reality, they might not. What matters more is how much effort we give and how much we learn in the process. Anya did not win in the end, and even though she ate the special dessert, her grades were still low. But her journey was filled with fun, determination, and heart, and that made it meaningful. This episode reminded me that failure does not define us and that growth often comes from simply trying our best. That is why I admire Spy x Family so much. It manages to make us laugh while quietly teaching lessons that stay with us long after the episode ends.
